How fuel savings work in a tractor remap

A tractor remap does not make the engine work less hard — it makes it work more efficiently. Better combustion calibration extracts more useful work from each litre of fuel. The engine produces more torque and power while burning less fuel to achieve it.

The fuel saving percentage is consistent within a range — typically 8–12% for standard farm tractor duty cycles, and up to 15% in some specific applications. Individual results depend on the tractor model, condition, and duty cycle.

Fuel savings by tractor size

Small tractors (50–100hp): Burning 4–8 litres per hour. A 10% saving is 0.4–0.8 litres per hour. On a compact tractor running 400 hours per year, this is 160–320 litres saved — £145–290 at £0.90/litre red diesel.

Medium tractors (100–200hp): Burning 8–15 litres per hour. A 10% saving is 0.8–1.5 litres per hour. On a 150hp tractor running 600 hours per year, this is 480–900 litres saved — £430–810 at £0.90/litre.

Large tractors (200–300hp): Burning 15–22 litres per hour. A 10% saving is 1.5–2.2 litres per hour. On a 250hp tractor running 800 hours per year, this is 1,200–1,760 litres saved — £1,080–1,580 at £0.90/litre.

Very large tractors (300hp+): Burning 22–35 litres per hour. A 10% saving is 2.2–3.5 litres per hour. On a 350hp tractor running 1,000 hours per year, this is 2,200–3,500 litres saved — £1,980–3,150 at £0.90/litre.

Fleet savings — the compounding effect

Each tractor in a fleet saves independently. A farm running 5 tractors of various sizes, each saving 10% on fuel, realises five times the single-tractor saving.

Working out your own saving

To project the saving for your specific tractors:

1. Find the average fuel consumption per hour from your fuel records or manufacturer data.2. Apply 8–12% for standard farm duty; up to 15% for high-load cultivation work.3. Multiply by your annual hours per tractor.4. Multiply by your red diesel cost per litre.

Are the fuel saving percentages guaranteed?

No — we do not guarantee specific percentages because every tractor and duty cycle is different. The figures quoted are typical from tractors we have remapped. We give realistic projections for your specific models when you enquire.

Do fuel savings apply to red diesel?

Yes — the combustion efficiency gain applies regardless of fuel type. Red diesel and white diesel both benefit proportionally.

Does operator driving style affect the fuel saving?

To a degree — an aggressive operator may see a slightly smaller percentage saving than an efficient one. However, the remap improves combustion efficiency regardless of driving style.

How soon after the remap are fuel savings visible?

Immediately — the improved calibration takes effect as soon as the remap is complete. Fuel meter readings confirm the saving within the first full working day.

Is the fuel saving bigger on older or newer tractors?

Older tractors often have more conservative factory maps relative to their engine capability, and sometimes see larger percentage gains. Newer tractors with Stage V engines are also well within scope. Both old and new tractors benefit.
