What an economy remap does

An economy remap optimises the ECU calibration for maximum fuel efficiency — achieving the same or greater work output while burning less fuel. The focus is on combustion efficiency, torque delivery at low RPM (reducing the need for high engine speeds), and throttle response calibration.

What a power remap does

Power remaps are particularly valuable for:Tractors working at the limit of their rated power — heavy cultivation in clay, large square baler operation, steep hill work.Contractors needing maximum throughput who want to own a smaller tractor and push its performance.Specific applications where the rated power is insufficient for a particular implement or operation.

Why most farmers can have both

The good news: economy and power are not mutually exclusive in a tractor remap.

A well-executed tractor remap produces both — more low-end torque (so the engine achieves the same work at lower RPM and lower fuel consumption) AND more peak power available when needed.

The reason: the factory map restricts both fuel efficiency and performance simultaneously. Removing the restrictions produces more torque and better efficiency at the same time, because the engine is combusting more efficiently rather than just burning more fuel.

What you choose to focus on in operation is then up to you. A tractor with more available torque at 1,400 RPM can do the same work at lower revs (economy) or pull a bigger implement at the same revs (power). The driver — and the implement — makes the choice.

When you genuinely have to choose

The cases where economy and power are in tension are at the very top of the performance range — pushing significantly beyond factory-rated output requires a calibration that prioritises power over efficiency at peak load.

For competition or demonstration tractors, maximum power is the priority.

For farm tractors in normal use, an optimised calibration that improves both is the appropriate route.
